1986 World Series: Game 6
Through Buckner's Legs
New York vs Boston
6 - 5
25 October, 1986
Mookie Wilson stepped to the plate in the 10th down one run with two outs. New York had to score or lose the World Series. Wilson determinedly fought off pitches and on a count of 2-2 pitcher Bob Stanley threw a wild pitch that allowed Kevin Mitchell to score and tie the game and to move Ray Knight into scoring position. Now with the count at 3-2, Wilson got a ground ball down the first base line. First baseman Bill Buckner moved over to field and missed the ball as it took a bounce and went through his legs. The error allowed Knight to score, and New York won the game. The momentum of the win carried into Game 7 where New York won their 2nd World Series.
